Stamped
Concrete is a cast in place system. The different surfaces and
patterns of the concrete are achieved through a series of textured
mats, which can resemble virtually any desired surface. The base
color of the concrete is obtained by adding integral color into
the mix. The concrete is then placed and finished. A powdered
color release agent is then used to insure maximum surface detail
while providing a second color for surface highlights and
distinctive grout line look.
For our stamp mix we use 28 mpa concrete with air entrainment. Air entrainment and a high strength concrete mix are extremely important for long-term durability in our harsh freeze thaw climate. The preferred aggregate size is 10 mm. It is important to try to keep your slump at 5" or less in order to maintain a better water cement ratio. We like to use steel rather than wire mesh because it limits the movement of the concrete during freeze thaw, and it is easier to maintain its placement in the slab during the pour. Forming for stamped concrete is very similar to forming for plain. The only difference is the height of the stakes. The stakes are kept flush, or lower, than the top of the form in order not to interfere with the stamping mats. |
